Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh and also the final book in the Harry Potter series of novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The book was released on the 21st of July, 2007. This last book chronicles the events directly following the previous book in the series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, published in 2005, leading to the long-awaited final struggle betweenHarry Potter and his allies, and the ever-more-powerful and influential Lord Voldemort and his servants, the Death Eaters.

In this post, I will talk about...

-------Who will die?

-------What does Deathly Hallows refer to?

-------How will the relationships come to an end?

-------Will Harry return to Hogwarts?

WHO WILL DIE?

Albus Dumbledore
Dumbledore made a terrible error by placing a cursed ring on his right hand. Severus Snape was called by him to help lift the curse that night. However, when Snape arrives and assesses the curse, he tells Dumbledore he has less than a year to live - Snape has done all he can, but this particular curse will eventually spread and kill him. This is when Dumbledore asks Snape if he would, when the time comes, kill him, so it is "less humiliating". Severus agrees, only because he told Dumbledore he would do anything for him, but later he doubts whether he really will end the Headmaster's life.
Voldemort assigned Draco Malfoy to the task of killing Albus as well, and Dumbledore is aware of it. On the night of Dumbledore's death, realising Malfoy's precarious situation, Dumbledore offers him and his parents protection with the Order of the Phoenix. Malfoy refuses as he is joined by other Death Eaters. They encourage Malfoy to kill Dumbledore when Severus Snape enters the scene. Malfoy finally realises that he cannot kill Dumbledore, so instead Snape is obligated to perform the task he promised Dumbledore he would, with the Killing Curse following a scene in which Dumbledore pretends to plead, and Snape pretends to loathe Dumbledore, so that it is not obvious Snape is really a triple agent. Dumbledore pleads, "Severus... please..." This takes place in June 1997. He was about 150 years old.

Lord Voldemort

When Voldemort becomes aware that Harry Potter and his friends are seeking and destroying his Horcruxes to eliminate him, he finds out he is not the true master of the Elder Wand. Because Snape took it from Dumbledore, he kills Snape in cold blood to be "master" of it. Voldemort then calls a one-hour armistice, requesting Harry Potter in exchange for peace and no further bloodshed. Harry is ready to sacrifice himself, but when Voldemort strikes him down with a Killing Curse, he is not dead.

Unknown to Voldemort, Harry himself is a seventh Horcrux, formed when Voldemort has failed to kill him as an infant all those years ago. Thinking Harry dead, he parades him before his horrified friends, but when he tries to kill Neville Longbottom, Harry casts a shield charm between them before Voldemort could curse him. Voldemort now enters the battle himself, attempting to strike down all within his reach. In the end, Harry and Voldemort have a one-on-one showdown, and Harry explains that Snape was a double agent, he [Harry] is the true master of the Elder Wand, as former master Dumbledore was disarmed by Draco Malfoy and Harry disarmed Malfoy in an earlier scrimmage. When Voldemort does not believe him and he strikes him down with the Killing Curse, it rebounds upon Voldemort, revealing that Harry is indeed the Elder Wand's true owner, as the wand cannot strike its own master. With all his Horcruxes destroyed, and his mortality re-established only minutes earlier, Voldemort dies as he his struck by his own rebounding killing curse.

The Deathly Hallows

The Deathly Hallows refer to The Elder Wand, The Resurrection Stone and The Cloak of Invisibility.

Elder Wand

The Elder Wand, is an extremely powerful magic wand made of elder wood. Supposedly, it is the most powerful wand in existence, and when used by its true master, he or she cannot be defeated in a duel. It also appears, as the wand is somewhat sentient, as are all wands, that it will not allow itself to cause real harm to its true Master. The wand's ownership, however, is a tricky matter. As stated by master wandmaker Mr. Ollivander, ownership can only be transferred properly. That is, the wand will only fully work for the new user if they disarm, stun, or kill the previous user. This can occur during a duel , or in non-magical ways.

Resurrection Stone

The Resurrection Stone allows the holder to see and communicate with the dead. Both Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald desired the stone, but for different reasons. While Dumbledore wanted it to communicate with his dead family, Grindelwald intended to use it to create an army of inferi. However, the stone is used only once by Harry Potter. According to the fairy tale concerning the origin of the Deathly Hallows, using the Resurrection Stone drove its original owner, Cadmus Peverell, to commit suicide after seeing his deceased fiancée but being unable to truly be with her. By the time the stone was seen in Marvolo Gaunt's possession, it had been set into a ring. The ring bore the symbol of the Deathly Hallows, which Gaunt believed to be the Peverell coat of arms. Voldemort turned the ring into a Horcrux, not knowing its magical nature.

Cloak of Invisibility

According to legend, the Cloak of Invisibility has the power to shield the wearer from being seen by Death. It can never be worn out by time or spells, unlike typical invisibility cloaks, which become opaque with age and were vulnerable to being punctured by various spells. The cloak initially belonged to Ignotus Peverell, who was buried in Godric's Hollow, and was passed down through his descendants to James Potter and, finally, to Harry Potter, who is revealed to be a descendant of Ignotus Peverell. The cloak was not in James Potter's possession the night he was murdered; he had lent it to Dumbledore, who was greatly interested in the Deathly Hallows.

The End-Epilogue

Nineteen years later, Harry has married Ginny Weasley, and they have three children: James, Albus Severus and Lily. Ron and Hermione are married and have two children, Rose and Hugo.

Return to Hogwarts

I think Harry will return to Hogwarts for some purposes but I am not sure yet.

I think that Snape is a good character because Dumbledore trusts him with the well-being of Harry.

Conclusion

All in all, I feel that this last book has proved to be intense and spell-bounding. The ending is good but unfortunately, the book has to come to an end.

Youth Concerns

Teenagers nowadays face a lot of problems, whether it is at home or at school. Such examples are pressure, teen violence and teen sexuality. Things will turn ugly if these problems are not handled properly.

Peer pressure

Teens are influenced by their friends to do things which are not of their own accord, usually bad things. Therefore at times they land themselves into hot soup.

Teen violence

Teen violence includes many different activities. These include fights, gang violence and suicide. The victims of teen violence are most often other teenagers.
Teens who commit acts of violence are often involved in other types of risky or criminal behavior. They may use drugs, carry weapons, drive recklessly and have unsafe sex.

Teen sexuality

Teens have under-aged sex when they are below 16 years years old. These can cause a lot of problems when a baby comes out. They do not know how to take care of the baby after it is born and tend to give way to pressure, abandoning or aborting the baby.

Experiences of 2007!!

One of my best experiences in 2007 is when I was in sec 1. My school, SJI, had organized a orientation camp for all sec 1s. The camp lasts for 3 days and 2 nights. Together with my frens, we proceeded to our school's lecture theatre to be briefed about the activities and most importantly the instructions! Following that, we kicked off the afternoon with some house cheers! We rocked the LT down man! Suddenly desparate for energy, we were told to go to the canteen where 'good' food awaited us!
Indeed, chicken wings, bee hoon, steamed tofu, and lychee punch were screaming out for us to eat them! Yummy! With our energy fully replenished, we were led by our peer support leaders(PSL) to our respective classes in our respective groups. In the classrooms, it was cosy and together we did a knowing-each-other session. I shared my experiences with my new classmates and it was so funny that they burst out laughing. Later we played a game called 'Murderer', where we have to close our eyes and the murderer will pick a person to kill. Next we had a fun time chatting and getting to know each other's hobbies.
Soon piping hot dinner was served in the canteen. The food consisted of steamed tofu, chicken wings, kakong and orange fruit punch. Upon seeing the food, I helped myself to the wide spread of food.
The last section for the day was the night trail. Our Peer Support Leaders brought us on a tour around the school. It was really creepy, especially the track. I heard of some rumours of the eerie events that happened on the track which made my hair stand on ends. After about 30 minutes, we retired for the night.
All in all, I felt that the camp was inspiring and fun. I felt warm and welcomed into the Lasallian family with all my seniors guiding me. I also got to know a lot of new friends and getting to socialise with them. This camp deserves two thumbs from me!
